The OFCCP periodically audits the employment practices of federal contractors to verify compliance with Affirmative Action regulations. These evaluations are often comprehensive, covering the company’s practices with regards to: recruitment, job placement, training, promotion, pay, and termination. When the OFCCP identifies problems, it will recommend corrective action.
Individual employees and organizations working on behalf of employees can also file complaints alleging violations. Depending on the results of the audit, monetary sanctions may be imposed, which can include back-pay to qualified individuals not hired, mandatory hiring from a pool of qualified applicants, and pay to employees paid less than other employees in the same or similar job, as well as interest. Contractors may also be debarred, making them ineligible for future government contracts.
